Sonia Zimmerman
MA R. Psych
Psychological Treatment
Whether Sonia is sitting across from a client, or working with a group, she is acutely aware that every lived story is unique. With that in mind, she prioritizes compassionate curiosity, cultural humility, and evidence-based practices in her work. As a therapist, she is keen to uncover the spots that cause people distress, gets them stuck, and stirs up the big emotions that seep through their lives. She balances her approach of getting people ‘as well as possible as fast as possible’, with the intention of giving a lot of space for clients to share and explore at a pace that works for them. Sonia tries to keep strategies and information easy to digest through story, humour and clear delivery.
A COGNITIVE THERAPIST WHO IS AWARE YOU HAVE TO UTILIZE BOTH THE MIND AND THE BODY TO IMPROVE PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH
Sonia doesn't shy away from acknowledging that therapy can feel hard, scary, and intimidating, to clients. She also stands by the statement, "People get better." This phrase is her honest response to why and how she commits to this work, and she's found it to be true since starting to work as a therapist.
As Sonia supports clients navigating towards their version of "better," she finds herself repeatedly in awe of the courage and changes she witnesses in the people, and the effectiveness of the process of therapy.
